Mutagenesis as a tool for improvement of traits in grasspea (Lathyrus sativus L.)
نویسنده
چکیده
Introduction Grasspea (Lathyrus sativus L.) is produced as major crop in Bangladesh, China, India and Pakistan, and to a lesser extent in many countries of Europe, the Middle East, northern Africa, as well as in South America. It is extensively cultivated and naturalised in the Middle East countries of Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Syria and Lebanon and in Ethiopia, Egypt, Morocco, Algeria and Libya in northern Africa . In Europe grasspea was cultivated in the Balkans by around 8000 BC (4) . Foods prepared from the seeds have been popular in Europe and are still being used locally in Spain, France, Germany and Bulgaria.

Genetic diversity among induced mutants of grasspea (Lathyrus sativus L.)
Introduction Knowledge about genetic diversity is a prerequisite of any breeding programme. Inclusion of diverse parents in hybridisation programmes serves the purpose of combining desirable genes in new recombinations. Mahalanobi’s D statistic (7) is a powerful tool in quantifying the degree of divergence at genotypic level. Several workers have used this method to quantify the degree of diver...

Introduction Grass pea (Lathyrus sativus L.) is one of the most important species of the Lathyrus genus. It has two subspecies : spp. asiaticus Zalk., which has small, coloured seeds, occurring mainly in the continental part of Asia and Africa and spp. europaeus Zalk. with large seeds, occurring predominantly in Central Europe and European Russia. According to Vavilov (8) its genetic centre is ...

Introduction In Italy, grasspea (Lathyrus sativus L.) is one of the least common grain legumes. Today, it is not included in the official statistics of Italy and its survival is due to the praiseworthy action of a small number of farmers in very limited areas of peninsular and insular centralsouthern Italy. Since the Second World War the sharp reduction in cultivation, similarly for other grain...
متن کاملLathyrus cicera as quality feed for laying hens
Introduction Research at CLIMA has indicated that Lathyrus cicera and L. sativus (grasspea) have potential as grain legumes on 100 000 to 300 000 ha of neutral to alkaline soils in low-to-medium rainfall areas of southern Australia. They do not have serious disease problems and are envisaged as low maintenance/low cost crops for the purposes of green manure, managing herbicide resistant weeds, ...

Callus cultures from root explants of Lathyrus sativus L. ‘Derek’ were tested for their morphogenic capacity. Primary explants (fragments of roots) were cultivated on three induction media. We obtained three lines of callus tissue among which we identified two non-embryogenic lines and one embryogenic line. Callus originally cultivated on modified MS medium supplemented with 0.05 mgL picloram, ...
